We’ve mapped the moon better than we’ve mapped our own oceans. Bedrock Ocean is changing that.
We’re thrilled to announce our investment in Bedrock Ocean, which is unlocking fast, affordable, and detailed access to the seabed—something that has been astonishingly hard to do until now.
Whether it’s inspecting an offshore rig after a hurricane or supporting subsea defense efforts, there’s growing demand for seafloor intelligence. But traditional ship-based surveys are expensive, slow, and hard to deploy – these missions can take 6 months just to schedule.
In contrast, Bedrock’s autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) can be deployed quickly and operate in remote areas—5x faster and 5x cheaper than the old approach. Their tech isn’t just faster—it’s quieter, greener, and more precise for most real-world needs. And it’s already proving itself in commercial projects from offshore wind to environmental impact assessments and national security missions.
Founder & CEO Charlie Chiau and the Bedrock team are an incredible group of engineers and mission-driven ocean nerds. (I got to see that firsthand on a pirate-themed Bedrock celebration cruise in SF Bay—and yes, it was as fun and inspiring as it sounds.)
We believe Bedrock can become a foundational infrastructure company for the ocean economy—and we’re proud to be on board.
Keep calm and map on.
