Open Invitation to the Costanoa Access Fellowship 2021

Firm All Hands Meeting including Evaline Tsai (Costanoa Access Fellow 2020)

We are happy to announce we are now accepting applications for our annual Costanoa Access Fellowship. It is crazy to think but we kicked off this program five years ago (!) with a single observation: the venture capital industry doesn’t reflect the diversity of the world we live in, and the current state isn’t good enough. Our goal was to find a way to open access to the industry to people with different backgrounds and experiences.

In the four years since, we have welcomed six amazing fellows: Javaughn Lawrence, Sophie Lalonde, Lindsey Wilcox, Alline Kabbatende, Divya Raghavan, and Evaline Tsai. And we didn’t go easy on them! All of them worked side-by-side with our investment team, doing the real work of venture: sourcing, due diligence, market research and supporting portfolio companies. They made substantial contributions to our team and continue to stay close in our network. And while our goal is to give more people access to the first rung of the venture capital ladder and to a new path for wherever their journey leads, we’re excited to say that three of our fellows are now working in VC, and all six are still involved in the tech ecosystem.

We’re particularly proud of last year’s fellow, Evaline, who managed to succeed even in a fully remote world. She never set foot in our offices and only met a few of us in person (with masks, outside, and socially distanced). Still, she became an integral part of our team, attending pitches, digging into startup financials, writing industry deep dives, and much more. Her previous operating experience was helpful in assessing products and go to market strategies and her domain expertise helped us meet and evaluate more companies in the biotech and construction tech space.

If you want to hear more about her experience, she shared her thoughts on what she learned over the summer here.

Interested in learning more about the fellowship? Please fill out this simple form. Once we receive your information, we’ll email you the full application. The fellowship takes place between June and August in Palo Alto and San Francisco, (or virtual…pandemic permitting!). While the program is targeted towards graduate students with a few years of business experience, we are open to all candidates who have a demonstrated love of technology and entrepreneurship.

The application deadline is Friday, February 19. We’ll reach out to next round candidates by February 26 for interviews. No resumes will be accepted. Questions? Email jobs@costanoavc.com.

Good luck, and we hope to welcome you to our team!
